Nano-Emulsion Kava Extract for Functional Beverages
Conventional kava (Piper methysticum) extract is hydrophobic. The active kavalactones — kavain, dihydrokavain, methysticin, dihydromethysticin, yangonin, and desmethoxyyangonin — sit in the lipid fraction and resist dispersion in aqueous beverage matrices. Standard practice has been to mask this with high oil content, surfactant overdose, or to give up on shelf stability entirely.
Nano Lyfe™ produces a water-soluble nano-emulsion of full-spectrum kava root extract at a sub-100 nanometer mean particle size (target d10 0.02 microns / 20 nm by DLS). The droplet diameter sits below the wavelength of visible light, so finished beverages stay optically clear — no separation, no flocculation, no need for cloudifiers.
What this means for your formulation
- Aqueous compatibility. Drop the emulsion directly into still or carbonated water-based beverages. No homogenization step required at your end.
- Carbonation tolerance. Stable through standard line carbonation up to 4 vol CO₂.
- pH stability. Tested stable from pH 3.0 to pH 7.5 — compatible with citrus, hop, and tea-based matrices.
- Heat tolerance. Pasteurization stable (HTST, 72 °C / 15 sec). Not recommended for retort.
- Dose flexibility. Standardized to kavalactone content (kavalactones per gram) — formulators specify dose, not weight.
